Why we sell CBD

Circle City Cooperative offers premium CBD products because we believe in the power of hemp-based herbal supplements to balance and regulate mood, focus, and overall well-being. There's no such thing as a "magic compound" for your health, but a growing body of research has clearly demonstrated that CBD has a broad range of mental and physical benefits for many consumers.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a chemical compound called a "cannabinoid" that occurs naturally in the hemp plant. CBD and over 100 other cannabinoids, including THC, are native to hemp. Many people are familiar with the intoxicating effects of THC, which is a close relative of CBD and an active ingredient in cannabis. CBD is very different from THC. CBD does not "get you high" or lead to intoxication.

Benefits of CBD

CBD has demonstrated an ability to treat a broad array of symptoms, including pain, anxiety, inflammation, sleep cycle irregularity and more. In fact, even the U.S. federal government itself filed a patent in 2003 for CBD and other "cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants," per US patent 6,630,507:

The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and HIV dementia. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol [CBD], are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.

Some of the most compelling evidence for CBD is its ability to treat two severe forms of epilepsy, Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut (LGS) syndrome, that cause children to have violent seizures. Neither of these conditions respond to anti-seizure pharmaceuticals, but they do respond to CBD. That's why the FDA approved the first ever cannabis-derived medicine with Epidiolex in 2018—which contains CBD as the active ingredient.

Risks of CBD

CBD has an incredibly low risk profile. According to the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential… CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile… To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

Adding CBD to your wellness regimen

We believe in the power of CBD as a daily use supplement. We hope you'll give it a try. Thank you for supporting socially responsible CBD.
